Berlin / Hamburg, 8 May, 2020 - With an expanded service area, the MOIA ridepooling service will return to regular operations in Hamburg on May 25, 2020. "The restart of our ridepooling service is an important signal for our industry, but especially for our customers in Hamburg. There will now be more activity on Hamburg's streets again. We are therefore very pleased to gradually ramp up operations and to be able to offer the Hamburg residents an additional mobility option again. To this end, we have flexibly adapted our processes and increased the protective measures once again," says MOIA CEO Robert Henrich.
Regular operations with expanded service area
With the beginning of the operation the usual service hours apply: From Monday to Wednesday from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. the following day. From Thursday to Sunday MOIA operates around the clock and on Sundays from 8 am to midnight. As of May 25, MOIA will expand its regular service area to include the districts of Billstedt and Billbrook, thereby increasing its area of operation to around 320 square kilometers. With this expansion, the company is further expanding the Hanseatic city's largest sharing service at the outskirts of the city, offering people in the east of Hamburg an additional alternative to the car to complement public transport. MOIA will initially deploy up to 170 vehicles at the same time and flexibly adjust the fleet size to actual demand. The pooling of passengers will be limited to a maximum of five individuals.
Comprehensive program for infection protection for employees and customers
MOIA has considerably extended the protective measures for employees and customers in the operation. Already existing measures such as the compulsory wearing of masks for passengers in the MOIA, the separation of the passenger compartment from the driver's area by foil, high cleaning intervals as well as the availability of disinfectant on board are supplemented by a number of other comprehensive measures: At the hubs, employees are required to wear masks during shifts. In addition, the employees are comprehensively trained for infection protection at the hubs in online trainings prior to regular operations and the workflows at the hubs are adapted accordingly. In addition, the hubs are separated operationally. MOIA will continue to monitor the situation closely in the future and constantly re-evaluate and adapt the measures in the interests of passenger and staff safety.
MOIA had temporarily suspended regular operations on April 1 in the wake of the Corona pandemic. Since April 1, MOIA has been strengthening the Hanseatic City's night traffic with 100 vehicles and as part of the corona measures of the City of Hamburg. At the start of operations, around 800 employees of MOIA Operations in Hamburg will return to their jobs. The short-time work regulation is maintained at 50 percent. With the resumption of regular operations, night operations on behalf of the City of Hamburg will end on 24 May.
